We are seeking an experienced, innovative, and organized Senior Building Energy Modeling Strategic Lead to join our Policy and Ratings team to lead and grow our building energy modeling practice area. This individual will collaborate with our engineers, energy modelers, data scientists, and software developers to enhance our modeling workflows. They will also work with company leadership to identify strategic opportunities to apply energy modeling and data strategies to support incentive program design and delivery as well as analysis to support building codes, appliance standards, and policy interventions.  

*This position is hybrid or remote eligible (candidates within 40 miles of our offices are expected to come in 1x/month).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing energy modeling research projects, developing clear parametric simulation methodologies and analysis objectives. 
• Develop and implement strategy to expand use of building energy modeling to support client projects and inform strategic company growth.  
• Own our BEM workflow which may include working with our Information Systems team and energy modelers to realize simulation efficiencies, collaborating with cross-departmental data team to glean and communicate useful information from simulation results, and improving our quality control / quality assurance practices related to simulations.  
• Stay informed of innovations in energy modeling and apply knowledge to improve our company-wide BEM workflows and offerings. 
• Collaborate with BEM teams to develop and review reports and deliverables, presenting clear documentation of simulation methodologies, assumptions, results, and insights gained. 
• Support staff development and management including: identifying training needs, mentoring staff, defining professional growth and development goals and opportunities for energy modelers. 

Minimum qualifications: 

• Mastery of EnergyPlus and derivative software tools that enable parametric energy modeling. 
• Fluency in Python. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Office365, SharePoint, OneNote), Amazon Web Services, GitHub, and Tableau. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including a demonstrated ability to facilitate effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., energy modelers, software developers, non-technical program managers).  
• Advanced knowledge of software limitations and capabilities related to technologies and design approaches used in real buildings. 
• Demonstrated outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills including experience resolving errors in energy modeling simulations to ensure results are reasonable.  
• Ability to work, drive, and thrive while juggling many activities and communications. 

Preferred qualifications: 

• Experience with building energy code requirements and compliance using the performance approach (ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G, ASHRAE 90.1 ECB approach, Title 24 performance approach). 
• Familiarity with BEM software tools including California Building Energy Code Compliance (CBECC), Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment (IES VE), EnergyPro, Design Builder, Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, DOE-2, and eQUEST. 
• ASHRAE’s Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) Certification or equivalent. 
• Familiarity with Ruby.  
• Experience with incentive program design and implementation, appliance efficiency standards, and policy analysis. 

Salary DOE: $110k - $145k/Annually
